From the Sidelines to Center Stage: Why Visibility Changes Everything

Some of the most meaningful moments at Marysville Getchell don’t happen under bright lights.

They happen when a student plays their first varsity game after months of practice. When a band member nails a solo they’ve worked on for weeks. When a club hosts an event they planned themselves, hoping someone shows up.

Visibility changes those moments.

When students feel seen — truly seen — it sends a powerful message: what you’re doing matters. It builds confidence, pride, and a sense of belonging that carries far beyond high school.

The LED screen is about amplifying those moments. It gives our students a stage to celebrate achievements big and small — athletics, arts, academics, service, and leadership. It allows families, alumni, neighbors, and first-time visitors to instantly connect with what’s happening inside our school.

And here’s the part that matters to the broader community: schools don’t exist in isolation. Strong schools create confident graduates. Confident graduates become engaged employees, volunteers, and leaders. When we invest in how students are celebrated today, we’re shaping the community we’ll all live in tomorrow.

This isn’t just about cheering louder. It’s about showing students that their effort is worth recognizing — whether they go on to college, trades, service, or straight into the workforce.

Action Item: Think about a moment when being recognized made a difference in your life. Now imagine what that could mean for a teenager still figuring out who they are. Consider supporting projects that lift students into the spotlight — whether through Booster involvement, sponsorship, or simply showing up and cheering them on.
