The first day of school at Marysville Getchell High School is just around the corner: Thursday, August 28 or Friday, August 29 depending on your grade — and whether you’re a brand-new freshman family or a seasoned senior parent, the start of the year can feel a little… hectic.
We’ve pulled together our favorite tips and tricks to help you and your student start strong, stay organized, and maybe even enjoy the ride!
1. Mark Your Calendar Early
Review MGHS’s key dates now—orientation, early release days, no-school days, and game schedules.

Check in Days:
Freshman Check-In - Monday, August 25
9:30-11:30 AM & 12:30 – 2:30 PM
Sophomore Check-In - Tuesday, August 26
9:30-11:30 AM & 12:30 – 2:30 PM
Junior Check-In - Wednesday, August 27
12:30 PM – 2:30 PM
Senior Check-In - Wednesday, August 27
9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Add important dates to your phone or family calendar so you’re not scrambling later.
2. Beat the Back-to-School Rush
Stock up on basics like pens, paper, and binders before the last-minute rush. But don't get anything else - yet...wait until after the first couple of days so you know exactly what your student needs!
Consider buying in bulk for items your student will need all year—saves money and emergency store runs!
Don’t forget to label everything (yes, even the lunchbox).
3. Set Up for Academic Success
Make sure your student’s laptop or Chromebook is charged, updated, and ready to go.
Organize a quiet, distraction-free study space at home.
Bookmark MGHS’s website, Skyward, and Google Classroom for quick access.
4. Plan for Balance
If your student plays sports or is in band, create a family schedule now to help manage late practices, games, and performances.
Don’t forget downtime—teens need rest as much as they need activities.
5. Stay Connected
Follow MGHS and the Green & Gold Booster Club on Facebook and Instagram for updates, event info, and opportunities to get involved.
Bookmark the Green and Gold Booster Club website—we’ll be posting resources and reminders all year long, not just for sports and music families, but for every MGHS parent.
💚💛 The start of the school year can be exciting, busy, and sometimes overwhelming. The good news? You’re not in it alone. The Boosters are here to help your family navigate it all—on the field, in the stands, in the band room, and beyond.
Let’s make 2025–2026 the best year yet!
